My groaning has worn me out. At night my bed and pillow are soaked with tears.

I cry like a swallow; I mourn like a dove. My eyes are red from looking to you, Lord. I am in terrible trouble. Please come and help me.

My eyes are weary from waiting to see you keep your promise to come and save me.

I am worn out from waiting for you to keep your word. When will you have mercy?

Your sons and daughters will be dragged off to a foreign country, while you stand there helpless. And even if you watch for them until you go blind, you will never see them again.

God had the power to save Jesus from death. And while Jesus was on earth, he begged God with loud crying and tears to save him. He truly worshiped God, and God listened to his prayers.

Jesus knew that he had now finished his work. And in order to make the Scriptures come true, he said, “I am thirsty!”

My eyes are red from crying, my stomach is in knots, and I feel sick all over. My people are being wiped out, and children lie helpless in the streets of the city.

Enemies poisoned my food, and when I was thirsty, they gave me vinegar.

“What am I waiting for? I depend on you, Lord!

I obey you with all my heart, and I trust you, knowing that you will save me.

My strength has dried up like a broken clay pot, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You, God, have left me to die in the dirt.

I cry out day and night, but you don't answer, and I can never rest.

My face is red with tears, and dark shadows circle my eyes,

But those who are evil will go blind and lose their way. Their only escape is death!

and you gave me a new song, a song of praise to you. Many will see this, and they will honor and trust you, the Lord God.

your anger rolls over me like ocean waves.
