Then the Lord's people turned against him and made his Holy Spirit sad. So he became their enemy and attacked them.

Absalom and the others liked Hushai's plan better than Ahithophel's plan. This was because the Lord had decided to keep Ahithophel's plan from working and to cause trouble for Absalom.

This is because God considers the wisdom of this world to be foolish. It is just as the Scriptures say, “God catches the wise when they try to outsmart him.”

Each of those nations sneered at you, our Lord. Now let others sneer at them, seven times as much.

His mighty power rules forever, and nothing the nations do can be hidden from him. So don't turn against God.

Do something, Lord! Attack and defeat them. Take your sword and save me from those evil people.

Now break the power of all merciless people. Punish them for doing wrong and make them stop.

At once, Haman was hanged on the gallows he had built to hang Mordecai, and the king calmed down.

But before the prophet finished speaking, Amaziah interrupted and said, “You're not one of my advisors! Don't say another word, or I'll have you killed.” The prophet stopped. But then he added, “First you sinned and now you've ignored my warning. It's clear that God has decided to punish you!”

David heard that Nabal had died. “I praise the Lord!” David said. “He has judged Nabal guilty for insulting me. The Lord kept me from doing anything wrong, and he made sure that Nabal hurt only himself with his own evil.” Abigail was still at Carmel. So David sent messengers to ask her if she would marry him.

The Lord your God will keep you safe when your enemies try to kill you. But he will snatch away their lives quicker than you can throw a rock from a sling.

But Sihon refused to let us go across his country, because the Lord made him stubborn and eager to fight us. The Lord told me, “I am going to help you defeat Sihon and take his land, so attack him!”
