I am not talking about all of you. I know the ones I have chosen. But what the Scriptures say must come true. And they say, “The man who ate with me has turned against me!”

He answered, “One of you men who has eaten with me from this dish will betray me.

I heard the crowds whisper, “Everyone is afraid. Now's our chance to accuse Jeremiah!” All of my so-called friends are just waiting for me to make a mistake. They say, “Maybe Jeremiah can be tricked. Then we can overpower him and get even at last.”

My best friends and loved ones have turned from me.

Your allies can't be trusted. They will force you out of your own country. And your best friends will trick and trap you, even before you know it.

Don't trust anyone, not even your best friend, and be careful what you say to the one you love.

God has turned relatives and friends against me,

Israel, you grew fat and rebelled against God, your Creator you rejected the Mighty Rock, your only place of safety.

I refuse to be corrupt or to take part in anything crooked,
