Zion, because of your sins you are surrounded by many nations who say, “We can hardly wait to see you disgraced.”

just as you celebrated when Israel was destroyed. Your nation of Edom will be nothing but a wasteland. Then everyone will know that I am the Lord.

By insulting the poor, you insult your Creator. You will be punished if you make fun of someone in trouble.

I can tell those proud people, “Stop your boasting! Nothing is hidden from the Lord, and he judges what we do.”

They brag out loud about their stupid nonsense. And by being vulgar and crude, they trap people who have barely escaped from living the wrong kind of life.

These people grumble and complain and live by their own selfish desires. They brag about themselves and flatter others to get what they want.

but the Lord laughs and knows their time is coming soon.

Silence those proud liars! Make them stop bragging and insulting your people.

I can count all my bones, and my enemies just stare and sneer at me.

I have never laughed when my enemies were struck by disaster.

The beast was allowed to brag and claim to be God, and for 42 months it was allowed to rule.

Our tongues are small too, and yet they brag about big things. It takes only a spark to start a forest fire!

When Jesus came closer and could see Jerusalem, he cried

You people of Edom can celebrate now! But your time will come to suffer and stagger around naked.

You let your officials insult me, the Lord. And here is what you have said about yourself, “I led my chariots to the highest heights of Lebanon's mountains. I went deep into its forest, cutting down the best cedar and cypress trees.

My eyes have seen, and my ears have heard the doom and destruction of my evil enemies.

You love me and will let me see my enemies defeated.

You have rescued me from all my troubles, and my own eyes have seen my enemies fall.

Everyone, from east to west, is overwhelmed with horror.

I have stumbled, and worthless liars I don't even know surround me and sneer.

Zion, your enemies curse you and snarl like wild animals, while shouting, “This is the day we've waited for! At last, we've got you!”

And you will finally realize that I heard you laugh at their destruction and say their land was yours to take.

But in my fierce anger, I will turn against those nations, and especially the Edomites, because they laughed at you the loudest and took over your pasturelands.
