Please help me, Lord! All who were faithful and all who were loyal have disappeared.

God's faithful people are dragged off and killed, and no one even cares. Evil sweeps them away,

A hunter traps birds and puts them in a cage, but some of you trap humans and make them your slaves.

You hurry off to do wrong or murder innocent victims. All you think about is sin; you leave ruin and destruction wherever you go.

when they say, “Come on! Let's gang up and kill somebody, just for the fun of it!

But for now, I am sending enemies who will catch you like fish and hunt you down like wild animals in the hills and the caves.

Your Majesty, look at what I'm holding. You can see that it's a piece of your robe. If I could cut off a piece of your robe, I could have killed you. You make cruelty and murder a way of life in Jerusalem.

They are hungry lions hiding in the bushes, hoping to catch some helpless passerby. They trap the poor in nets and drag them away.

The Lord All-Powerful was angry and used the people as fuel for a fire that scorched the land. They turned against each other

I listen carefully, but none of you admit that you've done wrong. Without a second thought, you run down the wrong road like horses running blindly into battle.

Others of you accept money to murder someone. Your own people charge high interest when making a loan to other Israelites, and they get rich by cheating. Worst of all, you have forgotten me, the Lord God.

These words mean that Jerusalem is doomed! The city is filled with murderers and is like an old, rusty pot. The meat is taken out piece by piece, and no one cares what happens to it.

Listen, you priests! Pay attention, Israel! Listen, you members of the royal family. Justice was your duty. But at Mizpah and Mount Tabor you trapped the people.

My people, you have turned against one another! You have even stolen clothes right off the backs of innocent neighbors who pass by in peace.

but you prefer to do evil instead of what is right. You skin my people alive. You strip off their flesh,

Tend those sheep because I, the Lord, will no longer have pity on the people of this earth. I'll turn neighbor against neighbor and make them slaves of a king. They will bring disaster on the earth, and I'll do nothing to rescue any of them.

Everyone tells lies, and no one is sincere.

You will each be cruel to friends and neighbors. Young people will insult their elders; no one will show respect to those who deserve it.

You priests are like a gang of robbers in ambush. On the road to Shechem you murder and commit other horrible crimes.

The Jewish crowd spoke up and agreed with what Tertullus had said.
