You would surely not let a thief break into your home, if you knew when the thief was coming.

Always be ready! You don't know when the Son of Man will come.

He could see that the disciples were struggling hard, because they were rowing against the wind. Not long before morning, Jesus came toward them. He was walking on the water and was about to pass the boat.

So be alert! You don't know when the master of the house will come back. It could be in the evening or at midnight or before dawn or in the morning.

Those servants are really fortunate if their master finds them ready, even though he comes late at night or early in the morning.

Watch out and keep praying that you can escape all that is going to happen and that the Son of Man will be pleased with you.

Remember the teaching you were given and heard. Hold firmly to it and turn from your sins. If you don't wake up, I will come when you least expect it, just as a thief does.

Remember Christ says, “When I come, it will surprise you like a thief! But God will bless you, if you are awake and ready. Then you won't have to walk around naked and be ashamed.”

Robbers hide during the day, then break in after dark because they reject the light.
