On that day, I, the Lord God, will make the sun go down at noon, and I will turn daylight into darkness.

Light will disappear from the stars in the sky; the dawning sun will turn dark, and the moon will lose its brightness.

Both the moon and sun will be embarrassed and ashamed. The Lord All-Powerful will rule on Mount Zion in Jerusalem, where he will show its rulers his wonderful glory.

The day of the Lord's return will surprise us like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a loud noise, and the heat will melt the whole universe. Then the earth and everything on it will be seen for what they are.

Each star will disappear— the sky will roll up like a scroll. Everything in the sky will dry up and wilt like leaves on a vine or fruit on a tree.

When the fourth angel blew his trumpet, a third of the sun, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars were struck. They each lost a third of their light. So during a third of the day there was no light, and a third of the night was also without light.

They make the earth tremble and the heavens shake; the sun and moon turn dark, and stars stop shining.

The day when the Lord judges will be dark, very dark, without a ray of light.

This will be the worst time of suffering since the beginning of the world, and nothing this terrible will ever happen again.

But this is just the beginning of troubles.

Someday the light of the sun and the moon and the stars will all seem dim to you. Rain clouds will remain over your head.
