Watch out for people who will take you to court and have you beaten in their synagogues.

Be on your guard! You will be taken to courts and beaten with whips in their synagogues. And because of me, you will have to stand before rulers and kings to tell about your faith.

I will send to you prophets and wise people and experts in the Law of Moses. You will kill them or nail them to a cross or beat them in your synagogues or chase them from town to town.

I often had them punished in our synagogues, and I tried to make them give up their faith. In fact, I was so angry with them, that I went looking for them in foreign cities.

You will be chased out of the synagogues. And the time will come when people will kill you and think they are doing God a favor.

When you are brought to trial in the synagogues or before rulers or officials, don't worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say.

But I promise you if you are angry with someone, you will have to stand trial. If you call someone a fool, you will be taken to court. And if you say that someone is worthless, you will be in danger of the fires of hell.

Don't trust anyone, not even your best friend, and be careful what you say to the one you love.

Watch out for those people who behave like dogs! They are evil and want to do more than just circumcise you.
