Jesus finished by saying, “People were not made for the good of the Sabbath. The Sabbath was made for the good of people.

Don't let anyone tell you what you must eat or drink. Don't let them say you must celebrate the New Moon festival, the Sabbath, or any other festival.

Then Jesus asked, “On the Sabbath should we do good deeds or evil deeds? Should we save someone's life or destroy it?”

but the seventh day of the week belongs to me, your God. No one is to work on that day—not you, your children, your oxen or donkeys or any other animal, not even those foreigners who live in your towns. And don't make your slaves do any work.

And I commanded them to respect the Sabbath as a way of showing that they were holy and belonged to me.

But first, you must start respecting the Sabbath as a joyful day of worship. You must stop doing and saying whatever you please on this special day.

I told them to respect my Sabbath to show that they were my people and that I was the Lord their God.

Work the first six days of the week, but rest and relax on the seventh day. This law is not only for you, but for your oxen, donkeys, and slaves, as well as for any foreigners among you.

in order to obey the Law of Moses. Why are you angry with me for making someone completely well on the Sabbath?

All of this has been done for you, so more and more people will know how kind God is and will praise and honor him.

Show respect for the Sabbath Day—it belongs to me.

So the Son of Man is Lord over the Sabbath.”
