Esau's descendants may say, “Although our nation Edom is in ruins, we will rebuild it.” But I, the Lord All-Powerful, promise to tear down whatever they build. Then everyone will know that I will never stop being angry with them as long as they are so sinful.

I will send my own people to take revenge on the Edomites by making them feel my fierce anger. And when I punish them, they will know that I am the Lord God.”

So don't lose hope. I, the Lord, have spoken.

How will you escape being captured or killed? The Lord is still angry, and he isn't through with you yet!

No matter how much you know or what plans you make, you can't defeat the Lord.

Our Lord, punish the Edomites! On the day Jerusalem fell, they shouted, “Completely destroy the city! Tear down every building!”

Without the help of the Lord it is useless to build a home or to guard a city.

When God does nothing, can any person or nation find fault with him?

No one can rebuild what he destroys, or release those he has imprisoned.

God is wise and powerful— who could possibly oppose him and win?

If you are not on my side, you are against me. If you don't gather in the harvest with me, you scatter it.

This nation will eat your crops and livestock; they will leave no fruit on your vines or fig trees. And although you feel safe behind thick walls, your towns will be destroyed and your children killed.

I will send disaster to punish you descendants of Esau, so anyone from Dedan had better turn around and run back home.

Listen to my plans for you, people of Edom. Your children will be dragged off and your country destroyed.

So I will punish Edom by killing all its people and livestock. It will be an empty wasteland all the way from Teman to Dedan.

because I will turn you into a bare rock where fishermen can dry their nets. And you will never rebuild your city. I, the Lord God, make this promise.

The Lord God gave Obadiah a message about Edom, and this is what we heard: “I, the Lord, have sent a messenger with orders for the nations to attack Edom.”

You were cruel to your relatives, the descendants of Jacob. Now you will be destroyed, disgraced forever.

The Lord destroys the plans and spoils the schemes of the nations.

The Lord All-Powerful says about Edom: Wisdom and common sense have vanished from Teman.

The Lord said: I will punish Edom for countless crimes, and I won't change my mind. They killed their own relatives and were so terribly furious that they showed no mercy.
