Luke 24:44

Jesus said to them, “While I was still with you, I told you that everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the Books of the Prophets, and in the Psalms had to happen.”

I, the Lord, will make the descendants of David and the people of Jerusalem feel deep sorrow and pray when they see the one they pierced with a spear. They will mourn and weep for him, as parents weep over the death of their only child or their first-born.

Everyone in Jerusalem, celebrate and shout! Your king has won a victory, and he is coming to you. He is humble and rides on a donkey; he comes on the colt of a donkey.

that he has kept this promise to us. It is just as the second Psalm says about Jesus, “You are my son because today I have become your Father.”

Jesus told his disciples, “The nation's leaders, the chief priests, and the teachers of the Law of Moses will make the Son of Man suffer terribly. They will reject him and kill him, but three days later he will rise to life.”

But the Lord will still give you proof. A virgin is pregnant; she will have a son and will name him Immanuel.

I knelt at the feet of the angel and began to worship him. But the angel said, “Don't do that! I am a servant, just like you and everyone else who tells about Jesus. Don't worship anyone but God. Everyone who tells about Jesus does it by the power of the Spirit.”

The Law of Moses is like a shadow of the good things to come. This shadow isn't the good things themselves, because it cannot free people from sin by the sacrifices offered year after year.

Moses wrote about me, and if you had believed Moses, you would have believed me.

Tell him that I, the Lord All-Powerful, say, “Someone will reach out from here like a branch and build a temple for me. I will name him ‘Branch,’ and he will rule with royal honors. A priest will stand beside his throne, and the two of them will be good friends.

A child has been born for us. We have been given a son who will be our ruler. His names will be Wonderful Advisor and Mighty God, Eternal Father and Prince of Peace.

And so the Lord says, “I'm laying a firm foundation for the city of Zion. It's a valuable cornerstone proven to be trustworthy; no one who trusts it will ever be disappointed.

The stone that the builders tossed aside has now become the most important stone.

The Lord All-Powerful said: My sword, wake up! Attack my shepherd and friend. Strike down the shepherd! Scatter the little sheep, and I will destroy them.

But later, Israel will turn back to the Lord their God and to David their king. At that time they will come to the Lord with fear and trembling, and he will be good to them.

After that, I will give you a shepherd from the family of my servant King David. All of you, both strong and weak, will have the same shepherd, and he will take good care of you.

The Lord says: My servant will succeed! He will be given great praise and the highest honors.

You have obeyed me, and so you and your descendants will be a blessing to all nations on earth.”

All of this is the Holy Spirit's way of saying no one could enter the most holy place while the tent was still the place of worship.

You search the Scriptures, because you think you will find eternal life in them. The Scriptures tell about me,

He will take his stand on the Mount of Olives east of Jerusalem, and the mountain will split in half, forming a wide valley that runs from east to west.

As I continued to watch the vision that night, I saw what looked like a son of man coming with the clouds of heaven, and he was presented to the Eternal God.

During the time of those kings, the God who rules from heaven will set up an eternal kingdom that will never fall. It will be like the stone that was cut from the mountain, but not by human hands—the stone that crushed the iron, bronze, clay, silver, and gold. Your Majesty, in your dream the great God has told you what is going to happen, and you can trust this interpretation.

Someday, I, the Lord, will cut a tender twig from the top of a cedar tree, then plant it on the peak of Israel's tallest mountain,

Someday I will appoint an honest king from the family of David, a king who will be wise and rule with justice.

If they decide that you are innocent, you will be protected from the victim's relative and sent to stay in one of the Safe Towns until the high priest dies.

and the Lord answered, “Make a snake out of bronze and place it on top of a pole. Anyone who gets bitten can look at the snake and be saved from death.”

You and this woman will hate each other; your descendants and hers will always be enemies. One of hers will strike you on the head, and you will strike him on the heel.”

And the Son of Man must be lifted up, just as the metal snake was lifted up by Moses in the desert.

He told them: The Scriptures say that the Messiah must suffer, then three days later he will rise from death.

The Lord said: I made a wonderful promise to Israel and Judah, and the days are coming when I will keep it.

You will have power and rule until nations obey you and come bringing gifts.

King Melchizedek of Salem was a priest of God Most High. He brought out some bread and wine

Melchizedek was both king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He was the one who went out and gave Abraham his blessing, when Abraham returned from killing the kings.

Moses was a faithful servant and told God's people what would be said in the future.

Moses is the one who told the people of Israel, “God will choose one of your people to be a prophet, just as he chose me.”

Do this because the Scriptures say, ‘He was considered a criminal.’ This was written about me, and it will soon come true.”

This time of punishment is what is written about in the Scriptures.

“Pay close attention to what I am telling you! The Son of Man will be handed over to his enemies.”

But all this happened, so that what the prophets wrote would come true.” All Jesus' disciples left him and ran away.

But then, how could the words of the Scriptures come true, which say this must happen?”

From then on, Jesus began telling his disciples what would happen to him. He said, “I must go to Jerusalem. There the nation's leaders, the chief priests, and the teachers of the Law of Moses will make me suffer terribly. I will be killed, but three days later I will rise to life.”

In the future, I will rebuild David's fallen kingdom. I will build it from its ruins and set it up again, just as it used to be.

The Spirit of Christ was in them and was telling them how Christ would suffer and would then be given great honor. So they searched to find out exactly who Christ would be and when this would happen.

But God had his prophets tell that his Messiah would suffer, and now he has kept this promise.

because he was teaching the disciples that the Son of Man would be handed over to people who would kill him. But three days later he would rise to life.

So the Lord's promise came true, just as the prophet had said,

The Lord won't leave me in the grave. I am his holy one, and he won't let my body decay.

Make sure what the prophets have said doesn't happen to you. They said,
