Not long before the Jewish festival of Passover, Jesus went to Jerusalem.

The next time Elkanah and his family went to offer their yearly sacrifice, he took along a gift that he had promised to give to the Lord.

Once a year Elkanah traveled from his hometown to Shiloh, where he worshiped the Lord All-Powerful and offered sacrifices. Eli was the Lord's priest there, and his two sons Hophni and Phinehas served with him as priests.

Each year there are three festivals when all Israelite men must go to the place where the Lord chooses to be worshiped. These are the Festival of Thin Bread, the Harvest Festival, and the Festival of Shelters. And don't forget to take along a gift for the Lord.

Celebrate Passover in honor of me on the fourteenth day of the first month of each year.

Your men must come to worship me three times a year, because I am the Lord God of Israel.

Remember this day and celebrate it each year as a festival in my honor.

It was before Passover, and Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and to return to the Father. He had always loved his followers in this world, and he loved them to the very end.

It was almost time for Passover. Many of the Jewish people who lived out in the country had come to Jerusalem to get themselves ready for the festival.

When you eat the meal, be dressed and ready to travel. Have your sandals on, carry your walking stick in your hand, and eat quickly. This is the Passover Festival in honor of me, your Lord.

And when Jesus was twelve years old, they all went there as usual for the celebration.
