From the heart of Jerusalem the Lord roars like a lion, shaking the earth and sky. But the Lord is a fortress, a place of safety for his people Israel.

You are a strong tower, where I am safe from my enemies.

There were flashes of lightning, roars of thunder, and the worst earthquake in all history.

You are my mighty rock, my fortress, my protector, the rock where I am safe, my shield, my powerful weapon, and my place of shelter.

They will live in a fortress high on a rocky cliff, where they will have food and plenty of water.

Pray that our Lord will make us strong and give us peace.

Besides, the eternal God of Israel isn't a human being. He doesn't tell lies or change his mind.”

The door to God's temple in heaven was then opened, and the sacred chest could be seen inside the temple. I saw lightning and heard roars of thunder. The earth trembled and huge hailstones fell to the ground.

At that same moment there was a terrible earthquake that destroyed a tenth of the city. Seven thousand people were killed, and the rest were frightened and praised the God who rules in heaven.

When God spoke the first time, his voice shook only the earth. This time he has promised to shake the earth once again, and heaven too.

I'll strengthen my people because of who I am, and they will follow me. I, the Lord, have spoken!

Everyone is terrified when a lion roars— and ordinary people become prophets when the Lord God speaks.

I, the Lord, will roar like a lion, and my children will return, trembling from the west.

I will strengthen the kingdoms of Judah and Israel. And I will show mercy because I am the Lord, their God. I will answer their prayers and bring them home. Then it will seem as though I had never rejected them.

Our wonderful Lord will be with us! There will be deep rivers and wide streams safe from enemy ships.

I trust you for protection in times of trouble, so don't frighten me.

The Lord is good. He protects those who trust him in times of trouble.

I will shake the nations, and their treasures will be brought here. Then the brightness of my glory will fill this temple.

and offer you hope. Return to your fortress, because today I will reward you with twice what you had.
