I wish that my eyes were fountains of tears, so I could cry day and night for my people who were killed.

If you are too proud to listen, I will weep alone. Tears will stream from my eyes when the Lord's people are taken away as prisoners.

Then I said, “Leave me alone! Let me cry bitter tears. My people have been destroyed, so don't try to comfort me.”

My eyes are red from crying, my stomach is in knots, and I feel sick all over. My people are being wiped out, and children lie helpless in the streets of the city.

When anyone disobeys you, my eyes overflow with tears.

The people answered, “Let them come quickly and cry for us, until our own eyes are flooded with tears.

I would go and live in some distant desert.

And worst of all, the people of Judah pretended to come back to me.

People of Judah, how can I forgive you? I gave you everything, but you abandoned me and worshiped idols. You men go to prostitutes and are unfaithful to your wives.

Others of you accept money to murder someone. Your own people charge high interest when making a loan to other Israelites, and they get rich by cheating. Worst of all, you have forgotten me, the Lord God.

Everyone burns with desire— they are like coals in an oven, ready to burst into flames.
