Someday I will let my people from both Israel and Judah return to the land I gave their ancestors.”

and accept your worship. Then I will gather you from all the nations where I scattered you, and you will return to Jerusalem.

Instead, you will call me the Living Lord who rescued you from that country in the north and from the other countries where I had forced you to go. Someday I will bring you back to this land that I gave your ancestors.

and you will know that I, the Lord, am the one who brought you back to Israel, the land I promised your ancestors.

The Lord said: Israel, I will be kind to you and let you come home. Jerusalem now lies in ruins, but you will rebuild it, complete with a new palace.

I will lead you home, and with your own eyes you will see me bless you with all you once owned. Then you will be famous everywhere on this earth. I, the Lord, have spoken!

In the same way, I will never reject the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob or break my promise that they will always have a descendant of David as their king. I will be kind to my people Israel, and they will be successful again.

But someday, people will again spend their silver to buy fields everywhere—in the territory of Benjamin, the region around Jerusalem and the towns of Judah, and in the hill country, the foothills to the west, and the Southern Desert. Buyers and sellers and witnesses will sign and seal the bills of sale for the fields. It will happen, because I will give this land back to my people. I, the Lord, have spoken.

But the Lord found fault with it and said, “I tell you the time will come, when I will make a new agreement with the people of Israel and the people of Judah.

At that time I, the Lord, will make Judah and Jerusalem prosperous again.

I will gather you from the foreign nations and bring you home.

I long for someone from Zion to come and save Israel! Our God, when you bless your people again, Jacob's family will be glad, and Israel will celebrate.

“Do you see these stones? The time is coming when not one of them will be left in place. They will all be knocked down.”

Jerusalem, the time will come when your enemies will build walls around you to attack you. Armies will surround you and close in on you from every side.

Jesus said to his disciples: The time will come when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not.

I am angry with the people of Jerusalem, and I will scatter them in foreign countries. But someday I will bring them back here and let them live in safety.

The Lord said: The time will surely come when I will make a new agreement with the people of Israel and Judah.

Someday, Israel and Judah will be my field where my people and their livestock will grow.

Israel, you belong to me, so don't be afraid. You deserved to be punished; that's why I scattered you in distant nations. But I am with you, and someday I will destroy those nations.

But if you and your nation are willing to obey Nebuchadnezzar, I will let you stay in your country, and your people will continue to live and work on their farms.

Many of the older priests and Levites and the heads of families wept bitterly because they remembered seeing the first temple years before. But others were so happy that they celebrated with joyful shouts.

During the second month of the second year after the people had returned from Babylonia, they started rebuilding the Lord's temple. Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Joshua son of Jozadak, the priests, the Levites, and everyone else who had returned started working. Every Levite over 20 years of age was put in charge of some part of the work.

During the seventh month of the year, the Israelites who had settled in their towns went to Jerusalem.

Then he will stop punishing you and treat you with kindness. He may have scattered you to the farthest countries on earth, but he will bring you back

The Lord All-Powerful, the God of Israel, said: I promise to set the people of Judah free and to lead them back to their hometowns. And when I do, they will once again say, “We pray that the Lord will bless his home, the sacred hill in Jerusalem where his temple stands.”

But I, the Lord, say to dry your tears. Someday your children will come home from the enemy's land. Then all you have done for them will be greatly rewarded.

Before they left, I wrote on a scroll all the terrible things that would happen to Babylon.

Our Lord, we ask you to bless our people again, and let us be like streams in the Southern Desert.

and bring them back from the foreign nations where they now live. I will be their shepherd and will let them graze on Israel's mountains and in the valleys and fertile fields.

The Lord God hasn't forgotten those survivors in Judah, and he will help them— his people will take your land to use for pasture. And when evening comes, they will rest in houses at Ashkelon. *
