Jeremiah, shout toward the north: Israel, I am your Lord— come back to me! You were unfaithful and made me furious, but I am merciful, and so I will forgive you.

Tell them that as surely as I am the living Lord God, I don't like to see wicked people die. I enjoy seeing them turn from their sins and live. So if the Israelites want to live, they must stop sinning and turn back to me.

But you, the Lord God, are kind and merciful. You don't easily get angry, and your love can always be trusted.

In the same way, I will never reject the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob or break my promise that they will always have a descendant of David as their king. I will be kind to my people Israel, and they will be successful again.

The Lord said: Israel, if you really want to come back to me, get rid of those disgusting idols.

you beg me to stop being angry, but you won't stop sinning.

You are merciful, Lord! You are kind and patient and always loving.

You willingly forgive, and your love is always there for those who pray to you.

I knew that the kingdom of Israel had been unfaithful and committed many sins, yet I still hoped she might come back to me. But she didn't, so I divorced her and sent her away. Her sister, the kingdom of Judah, saw what happened, but she wasn't worried in the least, and I watched her become unfaithful like her sister.

The Lord said to the people of Israel: If a divorced woman marries, can her first husband ever marry her again? No, because this would pollute the land. But you have more gods than a prostitute has lovers. Why should I take you back?

Turn back to me! I have rescued you and swept away your sins as though they were clouds.

If you don't confess your sins, you will be a failure. But God will be merciful if you confess your sins and give them up.

The Lord is always kind to those who worship him, and he keeps his promises to their descendants

The Lord is merciful! He is kind and patient, and his love never fails.

Our Lord, will you keep on being angry? Will your angry feelings keep flaming up like fire?

If you had done the right thing, you would be smiling. But you did the wrong thing, and now sin is waiting to attack you like a lion. Sin wants to destroy you, but don't let it!

Then suppose you realize that I turned against you and brought you to the land of your enemies because both you and your ancestors had stubbornly sinned against me. If you humbly confess what you have done and start living right,

The Lord won't always be angry and point out our sins;

Then the Lord told me to say to everyone on the streets of Jerusalem and in the towns of Judah: Pay attention to the commands in my agreement with you.

But later, I will have pity on these nations and bring them back to their own lands.

The Lord's kindness never fails! If he had not been merciful, we would have been destroyed.

And someday, I will gather you from the nations where you are scattered and let you live in Israel again.

So I have decided to renew our agreement with the Lord God of Israel. Maybe then he will stop being so angry with us.

People of Israel, come back! You have completely turned from the Lord.

With rock piles and signposts, mark the road well, my dear people. The road by which you left by will now lead you home.

Don't be stubborn like your ancestors. They were warned by the earlier prophets to give up their evil and turn back to me, but they paid no attention.
