Jeremiah 29:8

Some of your people there in Babylonia are fortunetellers, and you have asked them to tell you what will happen in the future. But they will only lead you astray with their dreams. And don't let the prophets fool you, either. They speak in my name, but they are liars. I have not spoken to them.

Don't let anyone trick you with foolish talk. God punishes everyone who disobeys him and says foolish things.

Prophets give their messages in the name of a false god, my priests don't want to serve me, and you—my own people— like it this way! But on the day of disaster, where will you turn for help?

But evil people who pretend to be what they are not will become worse than ever, as they fool others and are fooled themselves.

Hananiah, I have never sent you to speak for me. And yet you have talked my people into believing your lies and rebelling against me. So now I will send you—I'll send you right off the face of the earth! You will die before this year is over.

You might have people in your kingdom who claim they can tell the future by magic or by talking with the dead or by dreams or messages from a god. But don't pay attention if any of them tell you not to obey Nebuchadnezzar.

The Lord answered: They claim to speak for me, but they're lying! I didn't even speak to them, much less choose them to be my prophets. Their messages come from worthless dreams, useless fortunetelling, and their own imaginations.

But the beast was captured and so was the false prophet. This is the same prophet who had worked miracles for the beast, so he could fool everyone who had the mark of the beast and worshiped the idol. The beast and the false prophet were thrown alive into a lake of burning sulfur.

This second beast fooled people on earth by working miracles for the first one. Then it talked them into making an idol in the form of the beast that did not die after being wounded by a sword.

But don't be fooled! People will rebel against God. Then before the Lord returns, the wicked one who is doomed to be destroyed will appear.

They want to serve themselves and not Christ the Lord. Their flattery and fancy talk fool people who don't know any better.

Jesus replied: Don't be fooled by those who will come and claim to be me. They will say, “I am Christ!” and “Now is the time!” But don't follow them.

You are in for trouble when everyone says good things about you. That is what your own people said about those prophets who told lies.

False messiahs and false prophets will come and work great miracles and signs. They will even try to fool God's chosen ones.

Those prophets will be ashamed of their so-called visions, and they won't deceive anyone by dressing like a true prophet.

The only prophet you want is a liar who will say, “Drink and get drunk!”

I did not send these prophets or speak to them, but they ran to find you and to preach their message.

We must stop acting like children. We must not let deceitful people trick us by their false teachings, which are like winds that toss us around from place to place.

They tell each other their dreams and try to get my people to reject me, just as their ancestors left me and worshiped Baal.

Dear friends, don't believe everyone who claims to have the Spirit of God. Test them all to find out if they really do come from God. Many false prophets have already gone out into the world,

These unfaithful prophets claim that I have given them a dream or a vision, and then they tell lies in my name.

I had been left in Jerusalem when King Nebuchadnezzar took many of the people of Jerusalem and Judah to Babylonia as prisoners, including King Jehoiachin, his mother, his officials, and the metal workers and others in Jerusalem who were skilled in making things. So I wrote a letter to the priests, the prophets, the leaders, and the rest of our people in Babylonia.

You think Ahab son of Kolaiah and Zedekiah son of Maaseiah are prophets because they claim to speak for me. But they are lying! I haven't told them anything. They are also committing other horrible sins in your community, such as sleeping with the wives of their friends. So I will hand them over to King Nebuchadnezzar, who will put them to death while the rest of you watch. And in the future, when you want to put a curse on someone, you will say, “I pray that the Lord will kill you in the same way the king of Babylonia burned Zedekiah and Ahab to death!”

Don't fool yourselves into thinking that the Babylonians will leave as they did before.

Your prophets deceived you with false visions and lying messages— they should have warned you to leave your sins and be saved from disaster.

Those prophets lie by claiming they speak for me, but I have not even chosen them to be my prophets. And they still think their words will come true.

Don't listen to the lies of these false prophets, you people of Judah! The message they preach is something they imagined; it did not come from me, the Lord All-Powerful.

You feel secure, because you think I have sent prophets to speak for me in Babylonia.
