Jeremiah 26:19

Then the leaders continued: No one put Micah to death for saying that. Instead, King Hezekiah prayed to the Lord with fear and trembling and asked him to have mercy. Then the Lord decided not to destroy Jerusalem, even though he had already said he would. People of Judah, if Jeremiah is killed, we will bring a terrible disaster on ourselves.

So even though the Lord had threatened to destroy the people, he changed his mind and let them live.

But if God is behind it, you cannot stop it anyway, unless you want to fight against God. The council members agreed with what he said,

Please pray for those of us who are left alive. The king of Assyria sent his army commander to insult the living God. Perhaps the Lord heard what he said and will do something, if you will pray.

As soon as Hezekiah heard the news, he tore off his clothes in sorrow and put on sackcloth. Then he went into the temple of the Lord.

They poured out the blood of your people and your prophets. So you gave them blood to drink as they deserve!”

That's why you will be held guilty for the murder of every good person, beginning with the good man Abel. This also includes Barachiah's son Zechariah, the man you murdered between the temple and the altar.

But you will bring shame on your family and ruin to yourself for what you did to others.

Why do you now insist on heading for another disaster? A disaster that will destroy not only you, but also your children and babies.

But if you put me to death, you and everyone else in Jerusalem will be guilty of murdering an innocent man, because everything I preached came from the Lord.

Maybe the people will listen this time. And if they stop doing wrong, I will change my mind and not punish them for their sins.

The Lord will come out to punish everyone on earth for their sins. And when he does, those who did violent crimes will be known and punished.

“The Lord must be furious with me and everyone else in Israel and Judah, because our ancestors did not obey the laws written in this book. Go find out what the Lord wants us to do.”

Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz begged the Lord for help,

because they were used for offering incense to me. Have them hammered into a thin layer of bronze as a covering for the altar. Those men died because of their sin, and now their fire pans will become a warning for the rest of the community.”

Then the Lord felt sorry and answered, “I won't let it be destroyed.”

It happened after the people of Bethel had sent Sharezer with Regem-Melech and his men to ask the priests in the Lord's temple and the prophets to pray for them. So they prayed, “Should we mourn and go without eating during the fifth month, as we have done for many years?”
