What more could I have done for my vineyard? I hoped for sweet grapes, but bitter grapes were all that grew.

You will let your people settle on your own mountain, where you chose to live and to be worshiped.

Jesus said to his disciples: I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.

You chased off the nations by causing them trouble with your powerful arm. Then you let our ancestors take over their land.

We were like a grapevine you brought out of Egypt. You chased other nations away and planted us here.

The Lord loved your ancestors and decided that you would be his people. So the Lord used his great power to bring you out of Egypt.

I have chosen him to teach his family to obey me forever and to do what is right and fair. If they do, I will give Abraham many descendants, just as I promised.”

I am the Lord All-Powerful. You people of Judah were like a tree that I had planted, but you have made me angry by offering sacrifices to Baal, just as the northern kingdom did. And now I'm going to pull you up by the roots. *

Then you cleared the ground, and we put our roots deep, spreading over the land.

I will tell their enemies, “Go through my vineyard. Don't destroy the vines, but cut off the branches, because they are the people who don't belong to me.”

Once you were like an olive tree covered with fruit. But soon I will send a noisy mob to break off your branches and set you on fire.
