I will punish you double for your sins, because you have polluted my own land. You have filled it with lifeless idols that remind me of dead bodies.

Speak kindly to Jerusalem and announce: Your slavery is past; your punishment is over. I, the Lord, made you pay double for your sins.”

Treat her as she has treated others. Make her pay double for what she has done. Make her drink twice as much of what she mixed for others.

But those who worship idols will be punished and get what they deserve. I, the Lord God, have spoken.

Keep me from failure and disgrace, but make my enemies fail and be disgraced. Send destruction to make their worst fears come true.

I brought you here to my land, where food is abundant, but you made my land filthy with your sins.

When that happens, I want you to clear the land of all those idols I hate so much.

The kingdom of Judah wasn't sorry for being a prostitute, and she didn't care that she had made both herself and the land unclean by worshiping idols of stone and wood.

They were terribly insulted and horribly mistreated; now they will be greatly blessed and joyful forever.

Get out of here, you crooks! You'll find no rest here. You're not fit to belong to the Lord's people, and you will be destroyed.

The earth is polluted because its people disobeyed the laws of God, breaking their agreement that was to last forever.

and to the gods of Canaan. Then they poured out the blood of these innocent children and made the land filthy.

I'll destroy your shrines and tear down your incense altars, leaving your dead bodies piled on top of your idols. And you will be disgusting to me.

I have written this down; I won't keep silent. I'll pay them back just as their sins deserve.

You have disobeyed me by putting your disgusting idols in my temple, and now the temple itself is disgusting to me.

Time after time I sent my servants the prophets to tell the people of Judah how much I hated their disgusting sins. The prophets warned them to stop sinning,

Your sins have disgusted me and made my temple unfit as a place to worship me. So I swear by my own life that I will cut you down and show you no pity.

Israel, the time has come. You will get what you deserve, and you will know it. “Prophets are fools,” you say. “And God's messengers are crazy.” Your terrible guilt has filled you with hatred.

I, the Lord, will make them pay for their sins and for those of their ancestors— they have disgraced me by burning incense on mountains.

They committed murders and worshiped idols, which made the land even worse. So in my anger, I punished my people
