Everyone will tremble with pain like a woman giving birth; they will stare at each other with horror on their faces.

I heard groaning and crying. Was it a woman giving birth to her first child? No, it was Jerusalem, gasping for breath and begging for help. “I'm dying!” she said. “They have murdered me.”

then the women of your palace will be taken prisoner by Nebuchadnezzar's officials. And those women will say to you: Friends you trusted led you astray. Now you're trapped in mud, and those friends you trusted have all turned away.

Prophets give their messages in the name of a false god, my priests don't want to serve me, and you—my own people— like it this way! But on the day of disaster, where will you turn for help?

But what will you do when you are fiercely attacked and punished by foreigners? Where will you run for help? Where will you hide your valuables?

People will think they are safe and secure. But destruction will suddenly strike them like the pains of a woman about to give birth. And they won't escape.

When you face your enemies, will you still claim to be a god? They will attack, and you will suffer like any other human.

Your cities and fortresses will be captured, and your warriors as fearful as women giving birth.

Can men give birth? Then why do I see them looking so pale and clutching their stomachs like women in labor?

Those who live in the palace paneled with cedar will groan with pain like women giving birth.

Then the people said, “Just hearing about them makes us tremble with fear, and we twist and turn in pain like a woman giving birth.”

I'm in terrible pain like a woman giving birth. I'm shocked and hurt so much that I can't hear or see.

Ahaz sent a message to King Tiglath Pileser of Assyria that said, “Your Majesty, King Rezin and King Pekah are attacking me, your loyal servant. Please come and rescue me.”

But this is just the beginning of troubles.

Your shoes are worn out, and your throat is parched from running here and there to worship foreign gods. “Stop!” I shouted, but you replied, “No! I love those gods too much.”

Jerusalem, your land has been wiped out. But you act like a prostitute and try to win back your lovers, who now hate you. You can put on a red dress, gold jewelry, and eye shadow, but it's no use— your lovers are out to kill you!
