You harvest less than you plant, you never have enough to eat or drink, your clothes don't keep you warm, and your wages are stored in bags full of holes.

You won't harvest what you plant or use the oil from your olive trees or drink the wine from grapes you grow.

You will plant a lot of seed, but gather a small harvest, because locusts will eat your crops.

Why waste your money on what really isn't food? Why work hard for something that doesn't satisfy? Listen carefully to me, and you will enjoy the very best foods.

I will punish you terribly, and you will be ruined. You will be struck with incurable diseases and with fever that leads to blindness and depression. Your enemies will eat the crops you plant,

But the Lord All-Powerful sends up in flames what nations and people work so hard to gain.

Farmland had become a desert, and towns were in ruins. The Lord's fierce anger had done all of this.

But what good did you receive from the things you did? All you have to show for them is your shame, and they lead to death.

All of your hard work will be for nothing—and there will be no harvest of grain or fruit.

They wear themselves out, always looking for a new way to cheat their friends.

But I know your deeds and your thoughts, and I will make sure you get what you deserve.

God took out his anger on his chosen ones and let them be killed by enemy swords.

If you scatter wind instead of wheat, you will harvest a whirlwind and have no wheat. Even if you harvest grain, enemies will steal it all.

You expected much, but received only a little. And when you brought it home, I made that little disappear. Why have I done this? It's because you hurry off to build your own houses, while my temple is still in ruins.
