I heard the Lord reply, “When I am finished, Jerusalem and the towns of Judah will be piles of ruins where only jackals live.”

People of Israel, I have made my decision. An army from a distant country will attack you. I've chosen an ancient nation, and you won't understand their language.

Just watch while I send for the kings of the north. They will attack and capture Jerusalem and other towns, then set up their thrones at the gates of Jerusalem.

Its palaces and fortresses will be covered with thorns; only wolves and ostriches will make their home there.

The Lord said: I will pour out destruction all over the land.

before a message of disaster arrives from the hills of Ephraim and the town of Dan.

and now I will let you be attacked by nations from the north, and especially by my servant, King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylonia. You and other nearby nations will be destroyed and left in ruins forever. Everyone who sees what has happened will be shocked, but they will still make fun of you.

Only jackals will live where your villages once stood. I, the Lord, have spoken.

The roads to Zion mourn because no one travels there to celebrate the festivals. The city gates are deserted; priests are weeping. Young women are raped; Zion is in sorrow!

Tell the people of Israel that I, the Lord, say that someday everyone in Jerusalem will shake when they eat and tremble when they drink. Their country will be destroyed and left empty, because they have been cruel and violent.

Enemies roared like lions and destroyed your land; towns lie burned and empty.
