Isaiah 40:2

Speak kindly to Jerusalem and announce: Your slavery is past; your punishment is over. I, the Lord, made you pay double for your sins.”

and offer you hope. Return to your fortress, because today I will reward you with twice what you had.

They were terribly insulted and horribly mistreated; now they will be greatly blessed and joyful forever.

Israel, I, the Lord, will lure you into the desert and speak gently to you.

Treat her as she has treated others. Make her pay double for what she has done. Make her drink twice as much of what she mixed for others.

I will punish you double for your sins, because you have polluted my own land. You have filled it with lifeless idols that remind me of dead bodies.

Turn back to me! I have rescued you and swept away your sins as though they were clouds.

But I wipe away your sins because of who I am. And so, I will forget the wrongs you have done.

At the time I have decided, my words will come true. You can trust what I say about the future. It may take a long time, but keep on waiting— it will happen!

I will bless you with a future filled with hope—a future of success, not of suffering.

“Cheer up! Don't be afraid. Your God is coming to punish your enemies. God will take revenge on them and rescue you.”

Jesus said to them, “You don't need to know the time of those events that only the Father controls.

Some of those who are wise will suffer, so that God will make them pure and acceptable until the end, which will still come at the time he has decided.

At that time you will say, “I thank you, Lord! You were angry with me, but you stopped being angry and gave me comfort.

But when the time was right, God sent his Son, and a woman gave birth to him. His Son obeyed the Law,

But the Lord has promised to fight on our side and to rescue our children from those strong and violent enemies.

The Lord will forgive your sins, and none of you will say, “I feel sick.”

Our Lord, you bless everyone whose sins you forgive and wipe away.

For a while I was angry at the nations, but now I am furious, because they have made things worse for Jerusalem and are not the least bit concerned.

Daniel, go about your business, because the meaning of this message will remain secret until the end of time.

Daniel, I now command you to keep the message of this book secret until the end of time, even though many people will go everywhere, searching for the knowledge to be found in it.

You warned us and our leaders that Jerusalem would suffer the worst disaster in human history, and you did exactly as you had threatened.

Keep me from failure and disgrace, but make my enemies fail and be disgraced. Send destruction to make their worst fears come true.

Hezekiah thanked the Levites for doing such a good job, leading the celebration. The worshipers celebrated for seven days by offering sacrifices, by eating the sacred meals, and by praising the Lord God of their ancestors.

But Shechem was attracted to Dinah, so he told her how much he loved her.

It touched my lips with the hot coal and said, “This has touched your lips. Your sins are forgiven, and you are no longer guilty.”

The Lord will set you free from your sorrow, suffering, and slavery.

He was wounded and crushed because of our sins; by taking our punishment, he made us completely well.

I will never send anyone to attack your city, and you will make prisoners of those who do attack.

Weapons made to attack you won't be successful; words spoken against you won't hurt at all. My servants, Jerusalem is yours! I, the Lord, promise to bless you with victory.

Give up your evil ways and your evil thoughts. Return to the Lord our God. He will be merciful and forgive your sins.

I will comfort you there like a mother comforting her child.”

The people of Israel said, “Tell everyone in Zion! The Lord has taken revenge for what Babylon did to us.”

The people of Zion have paid for their sins, and the Lord will soon let them return home. But, people of Edom, you will be punished, and your sins exposed.

Only then will I calm down and stop being angry and jealous.

The Lord's answer was kind and comforting.

Your fierce anger is no longer aimed at us.

for crying and laughing, weeping and dancing,

There's only one way that Israel's sin and guilt can be completely forgiven: They must crush the stones of every pagan altar and place of worship.

Jerusalem, wake up! Stand up! You've drunk too much from the cup filled with the Lord's anger. You have swallowed every drop, and you can't walk straight.

I promise from that day on, you will call me your husband instead of your master.

Zion, your punishment is over. The Lord has forced your enemies to turn and retreat. Your Lord is King of Israel and stands at your side; you don't have to worry about any more troubles.
