Jehoiachin, you are unwanted like a broken clay pot. So you and your children will be thrown into a country you know nothing about.

The people of Jerusalem say, “King Nebuchadnezzar made us panic. That monster stuffed himself with us and our treasures, leaving us empty— he gobbled up what he wanted and spit out the rest.

God wanted to show his anger and reveal his power against everyone who deserved to be destroyed. But instead, he patiently put up with them.

They ruined and crushed you from every side, and foreign nations captured and made fun of you.

Zion, your enemies curse you and snarl like wild animals, while shouting, “This is the day we've waited for! At last, we've got you!”

The Lord was like an enemy! He left Israel in ruins with its palaces and fortresses destroyed, and with everyone in Judah moaning and weeping.

The Lord had no mercy! He destroyed the homes of Jacob's descendants. In his anger he tore down every walled city in Judah; he toppled the nation together with its leaders, leaving them in shame.

Israel is a flock of sheep scattered by hungry lions. The king of Assyria first gobbled Israel up. Then Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylonia, crunched on Israel's bones.

and shatter like a crushed bowl. There's not a piece left big enough to carry hot coals or to dip out water.”

The king of Assyria took the Israelites away as prisoners; he forced some of them to live in the town of Halah, others to live near the Habor River in the territory of Gozan, and still others to live in towns where the Median people lived.

Those of you that survive will be scattered to every nation on earth, and you will have to worship stone and wood idols that never helped you or your ancestors.

The Lord will let you be defeated by your enemies, and you will scatter in all directions. You will be a horrible sight for the other nations to see,

After I destroy your towns and ruin your land with war, I'll scatter you among the nations.

The Lord's people are his flock, and you leaders were the shepherds. But now it's your turn to be butchered like sheep. You'll shatter like fine pottery dropped on the floor. So roll on the ground, crying and mourning.

Foreigners and strangers have taken our land and our homes.

These are Zion's people, worth more than purest gold; yet they are counted worthless like dishes of clay.
