In the twentieth year of Jotham's rule in Judah, Hoshea son of Elah plotted against Pekah and murdered him. Hoshea then became king of Israel.

Pekah son of Remaliah was Pekahiah's chief officer, but he made plans to kill the king. So he and 50 men from Gilead broke into the strongest part of the palace in Samaria and murdered Pekahiah, together with Argob and Arieh. Pekah then became king.

Menahem son of Gadi came to Samaria from Tirzah and killed him. Menahem then became king. The town of Tiphsah would not surrender to him, so he destroyed it and all the surrounding towns as far as Tirzah. He killed everyone living in Tiphsah, and with his sword he even ripped open pregnant women. Everything else Shallum did while he was king, including his plot against Zechariah, is written in The History of the Kings of Israel.

Shallum son of Jabesh plotted against Zechariah and killed him in public. Shallum then became king.

You chose kings and leaders without consulting me; you made silver and gold idols that led to your downfall.

When Zimri saw that the town was captured, he ran into the strongest part of the palace and killed himself by setting it on fire.

Omri's followers were stronger than Tibni's, so Tibni was killed, and Omri became king of Israel

You wanted a king and rulers. Where is your king now? What cities have rulers?

Doomed! You're doomed! At night you lie in bed, making evil plans. And when morning comes, you do what you've planned because you have the power.

Won't you evil people learn? You refuse to pray, and you gobble up the Lord's people.

You are the only God ever seen or heard of who works miracles for his followers.

We are unfit to worship you; each of our good deeds is merely a filthy rag. We dry up like leaves; our sins are storm winds sweeping us away.
