When Israel and Judah saw their sickness and wounds, Israel asked help from Assyria and its mighty king. But the king cannot cure them or heal their wounds.

Israel is a senseless bird, fluttering back and forth between Egypt and Assyria.

All day long Israel chases wind from the desert; deceit and violence are found everywhere. Treaties are made with Assyria; olive oil is taken to Egypt.

It will be taken to Assyria and given to the great king. Then Israel will be disgraced for worshiping that idol.

You are like a wild donkey that goes its own way. You've run off to Assyria and hired them as allies.

Ahaz sent a message to King Tiglath Pileser of Assyria that said, “Your Majesty, King Rezin and King Pekah are attacking me, your loyal servant. Please come and rescue me.”

During Pekah's rule, King Tiglath Pileser of Assyria marched into Israel. He captured the territories of Gilead and Galilee, including the towns of Ijon, Abel-Bethmaacah, Janoah, Kedesh, and Hazor, as well as the entire territory of Naphtali. Then he took Israelites from those regions to Assyria as prisoners.

But the answer will be, “I can't do you any good. Don't make me your leader. There's no food or clothing left in my house.”

Even though Oholah was my wife, she continued to be a prostitute and chased after Assyrian lovers.

She will run after her lovers, but not catch them; she will search, but not find them. Then she will say, “I'll return to my first husband. Life was better then.”
