Hosea 3:1

Once again the Lord spoke to me. And this time he said, “Hosea, fall in love with an unfaithful woman who has a lover. Do this to show that I love the people of Israel, even though they worship idols and enjoy the offering cakes made with fruit.”

People of Israel, you are my own dear children. Don't I love you best of all? Though I often make threats, I want you to be near me, so I will have mercy on you. I, the Lord, have spoken.

“I invite the whole world to turn to me and be saved. I alone am God! No others are real.

But I trust the Lord God to save me, and I will wait for him to answer my prayer.

Israel, I can't let you go. I can't give you up. How could I possibly destroy you as I did the towns of Admah and Zeboiim? I just can't do it. My feelings for you are much too strong.

You have already lived long enough like people who don't know God. You were immoral and followed your evil desires. You went around drinking and partying and carrying on. In fact, you even worshiped disgusting idols.

And so, I will have pity on Jerusalem. The city will be completely rebuilt, and my temple will stand again.

But instead, you are like a wife who broke her wedding vows. You have been unfaithful to me. I, the Lord, have spoken.

Servants look to their master, but we will look to you, until you have mercy on us.

You cannot drink from the cup of demons and still drink from the Lord's cup. You cannot eat at the table of demons and still eat at the Lord's table.

You drink all the wine you want and wear expensive perfume, but you don't care about the ruin of your nation.

They lie down beside altars on clothes taken as security for loans. And they drink wine in my temple, wine bought with the money they received from fines.

But you are merciful and kind, and so you never forgot them or let them be destroyed.

But the Lord was kind to the Israelites and showed them mercy because of his solemn agreement with their ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. In fact, he has never turned his back on them or let them be completely destroyed.

He gave all the men and women in the crowd a small loaf of bread, some meat, and a handful of raisins, then everyone went home.

Then the Israelites got rid of the idols of the foreign gods, and they began worshiping only the Lord. Finally, there came a time when the Lord could no longer stand to see them suffer.

The time came for the grape harvest, and the people of Shechem went into their vineyards and picked the grapes. They gathered the grapes and made wine. Then they went into the temple of their god and threw a big party. There was a lot of eating and drinking, and before long they were cursing Abimelech.

The people got up early the next morning and killed some animals to be used for sacrifices and others to be eaten. Then everyone ate and drank so much that they began to carry on like wild people.

They worshiped idols, just as the Scriptures say, “The people sat down to eat and drink. Then they got up to dance around.” So don't worship idols.

Jesus replied, “My friend, do what you came for.” The men grabbed Jesus and arrested him.

On the day their king was crowned, his officials got him drunk, and he joined in their foolishness.

and have been unfaithful to me, their Lord. My people, you are foolish because of too much pleasure and too much wine.

and gave every person in the crowd a small loaf of bread, some meat, and a handful of raisins.

Refresh and strengthen me with raisins and apples. I am hungry for love!

Your mother was unfaithful. She was disgraceful and said, “I'll run after my lovers. Everything comes from them— my food and drink, my linen and wool, my olive oil and wine.”
