At Bethel, Jacob wrestled with an angel and won; then with tears in his eyes, he asked for a blessing, and God spoke to us there.

I, the Lord All-Powerful, will send my messenger to prepare the way for me. Then suddenly the Lord you are looking for will appear in his temple. The messenger you desire is coming with my promise, and he is on his way.

and he named the place Bethel.

God had the power to save Jesus from death. And while Jesus was on earth, he begged God with loud crying and tears to save him. He truly worshiped God, and God listened to his prayers.

Next, all of us who are still alive will be taken up into the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the sky. From that time on we will all be with the Lord forever.

It troubled the Lord to see them in trouble, and his angel saved them. The Lord was truly merciful, so he rescued his people. He took them in his arms and carried them all those years.

When God made the sea dry up, our people walked across, and because of him, we celebrated there.

Then he gave Joseph his blessing and said: My grandfather Abraham and my father Isaac worshiped the Lord God. He has been with me all my life,

Jacob said, “Now tell me your name.” “Don't you know who I am?” he asked. And he blessed Jacob.

Afterwards, Jacob went back and spent the rest of the night alone. A man came and fought with Jacob until just before daybreak.

They kept on wrestling until the man said, “Let go of me! It's almost daylight.” “You can't go until you bless me,” Jacob replied.

The second baby grabbed on to his brother's heel, so they named him Jacob. Isaac was 60 years old when they were born.

When the man saw that he could not win, he struck Jacob on the hip and threw it out of joint.
