I have told you this, so that you might have peace in your hearts because of me. While you are in the world, you will have to suffer. But cheer up! I have defeated the world.

It is useless to get up early and stay up late in order to earn a living. God takes care of his own, even while they sleep.

Besides all this, they are always gloomy at mealtime, and they are troubled, sick, and bitter.

We know that everything in the Law was written for those who are under its power. The Law says these things to stop anyone from making excuses and to let God show that the whole world is guilty.

How often does God become angry and send disaster and darkness to punish sinners?

“You worthless servant!” the king told him. “You have condemned yourself by what you have just said. You knew I am a hard man, taking what isn't mine and harvesting what I've not planted.

The king will say to them, “Whenever you failed to help any of my people, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you failed to do it for me.”

This made me hate life. Everything we do is painful; it's just as senseless as chasing the wind.

Then I thought about everything I had done, including the hard work, and it was simply chasing the wind. Nothing on earth is worth the trouble.

“How did you know you were naked?” God asked. “Did you eat any fruit from that tree in the middle of the garden?”

The woman stared at the fruit. It looked beautiful and tasty. She wanted the wisdom that it would give her, and she ate some of the fruit. Her husband was there with her, so she gave some to him, and he ate it too.

The king asked, “Friend, why didn't you wear proper clothes for the wedding?” But the guest had no excuse.

But land that produces only thornbushes is worthless. It is likely to fall under God's curse, and in the end it will be set on fire.

Your food will be plants, but the ground will produce thorns and thistles.

The smell of the burning offering pleased the Lord, and he said: Never again will I punish the earth for the sinful things its people do. All of them have evil thoughts from the time they are young, but I will never destroy everything that breathes, as I did this time.
