Only God's Spirit gives new life. The Spirit is like the wind that blows wherever it wants to. You can hear the wind, but you don't know where it comes from or where it is going.

No one can explain how a baby breathes before it is born. So how can anyone explain what God does? After all, God created everything.

He made the storm stop and the sea be quiet.

At his command a storm arose, and waves covered the sea.

You almost melt in the heat of fierce desert winds when the sky is like brass.

The windstorms of winter strike,

Rain poured down, rivers flooded, and the winds blew and beat against that house. Finally, it fell with a crash.

Anyone who hears and obeys these teachings of mine is like a wise person who built a house on solid rock.

But the Lord made a strong wind blow, and such a bad storm came up that the ship was about to be broken to pieces.

All rivers empty into the sea, but it never spills over; one by one the rivers return to their source.
