What good did it do me to keep my thoughts pure and refuse to do wrong?

I wash my hands, Lord, to show my innocence, and I worship at your altar,

These rules are merely about such things as eating and drinking and ceremonies for washing ourselves. And rules about physical things will last only until the time comes to change them for something better.

The Lord said: People of Israel, you are stained with guilt, and no soap or bleach can wash it away.

Keep me from any deadly sin. Only you can save me! Then I will shout and sing about your power to save.

Wash me with hyssop until I am clean and whiter than snow.

Wash me clean from all of my sin and guilt.

Even if I washed myself with the strongest soap,

and say, “We had no part in this murder, and we don't know who did it.

Joab and his family are the guilty ones. I pray that Joab's family will always be sick with sores and other skin diseases. May they all be cowards, and may they die in war or starve to death.”
