The Lord God All-Powerful has sworn by his own name: “You descendants of Jacob make me angry by your pride, and I hate your fortresses. And so I will surrender your city and possessions to your enemies.”

I, the Lord God, have sworn by my own name that your time is coming. Not one of you will be left— you will be taken away by sharp hooks.

I, the Lord All-Powerful, swear by my own life that enemy soldiers will fill your streets like a swarm of locusts. They will shout and celebrate their victory.

I, the Lord, won't forget any of this, though you take great pride in your ancestor Jacob.

You were the Lord's children, but you made him angry. Then he rejected you

I'll destroy your shrines and tear down your incense altars, leaving your dead bodies piled on top of your idols. And you will be disgusting to me.

I will live among you and never again look on you with disgust.

You were willing to offer your only son to the Lord, and so he makes you this solemn promise,

My people have turned against me and roar at me like lions. That's why I hate them.

Keep these promises! But let me tell you what will happen. As surely as I am the Lord God, I swear that I will never again accept any promises you make in my name.

I, the Lord, swear in my own name that your city of Bozrah and all your towns will suffer a horrible fate. They will lie in ruins forever, and people will use the name “Bozrah” as a curse word.

War will visit their cities, and their plans will fail.

The Lord has said that they don't even know how to do right. They have become rich from violence and robbery.

I, the Lord, hate and despise your religious celebrations and your times of worship.

Instead of singing in the temple, they will cry and weep. Dead bodies will be everywhere. So keep silent! I, the Lord, have spoken!”

If you respect the Lord, you will hate evil. I hate pride and conceit and deceitful lies.

The city of Samaria above a fertile valley is in for trouble! Its leaders are drunkards, who stuff themselves with food and wine. But they will be like flowers that dry up and wilt.

You put in big windows and used cedar paneling and red paint. But you were unfair and forced the builders to work without pay. *
