Do you rulers in Jerusalem and in the city of Samaria feel safe and at ease? Everyone bows down to you, and you think you are better than any other nation. But you are in for trouble!

While here on earth, you have thought only of filling your own stomachs and having a good time. But now you are like fat cattle on their way to be butchered.

You women of Samaria are fat cows! You mistreat and abuse the poor and needy, then you say to your husbands, “Bring us more drinks!”

I'll search Jerusalem with lamps and punish those people who sit there unworried while thinking, “The Lord won't do anything, good or bad.”

The five men left and went to the town of Laish, whose people were from Sidon, but Sidon was too far away to protect them. Even though their town had no walls, the people thought they were safe from attack. So they had not asked anyone else for protection, which meant that the tribe of Dan could easily take over Laish.

He wanted us to be his own special people, and so he sent the true message to give us new birth.

You have no city walls and no neighbors to help, yet you think you're safe— so I told him to attack.

Those terrible sinners on Mount Zion tremble as they ask in fear, “How can we possibly live where a raging fire never stops burning?”

God cares for you, so turn all your worries over to him.

You made promises to the goddess Ashimah at Samaria; you made vows to other gods at the shrines of Dan and Beersheba. So now you will fall and never get up.

Don't fool yourselves! My temple is here in Jerusalem, but that doesn't mean I will protect you.

then he bought the hill of Samaria from Shemer for 6,000 pieces of silver. He built a town there and named it Samaria, after Shemer who had owned the hill.

Jerusalem, once so crowded, lies deserted and lonely. This city that was known all over the world is now like a widow. This queen of the nations has been made a slave.

Moab, you are like wine left to settle undisturbed, never poured from jar to jar. And so, your nation continues to prosper and improve.

and we can't take more abuse from those proud, conceited people.

Of all nations on earth, you are the only one I have chosen. That's why I will punish you because of your sins.

Here is a message for the leaders of Philistia and Egypt— tell everyone to come together on the hills of Samaria. Let them see the injustice and the lawlessness in that city.

I will force you to march as captives beyond Damascus. I, the Lord God All-Powerful, have spoken!

Sin and self-satisfaction bring destruction and death to stupid fools.

You belonged to me alone, like the first part of the harvest, and I severely punished those who mistreated you.

So I'll go and talk to the leaders. They know what God demands.” But even they had decided not to obey the Lord.

Some of you are evil, and you deny that you will ever get caught. But you will be killed.

Listen to me, you rulers of Israel! You know right from wrong,
