I, the Lord, took away the food from every town and village, but still you rejected me.

You harvest less than you plant, you never have enough to eat or drink, your clothes don't keep you warm, and your wages are stored in bags full of holes.

and said, “We have to find something for our horses and mules to eat. If we don't, we will have to kill them. Let's look around every creek and spring in the country for some grass.

You will eat, but still be hungry; you will store up goods, but lose everything— I, the Lord, will let it all be captured in war.

I knew that the kingdom of Israel had been unfaithful and committed many sins, yet I still hoped she might come back to me. But she didn't, so I divorced her and sent her away. Her sister, the kingdom of Judah, saw what happened, but she wasn't worried in the least, and I watched her become unfaithful like her sister.

He sent the Arameans from the east and the Philistines from the west, and they swallowed up Israel. But even this did not stop him from being angry, so he kept on punishing them.

So I, the Lord, refused to let the spring rains fall. But just like a prostitute, you still have no shame for what you have done.

I answered, “I know that you look for truth. You punished your people for their lies, but in spite of the pain, they became more stubborn and refused to turn back to you.”

But they rejected me, and so must return to Egypt; now Assyria will rule them.

I made all of your hard work useless by sending mildew, mold, and hail—but you still did not return to me, your Lord.
