The Lord says: Don't brag about your wisdom or strength or wealth.

Here is something else I have learned: The fastest runners and the greatest heroes don't always win races and battles. Wisdom, intelligence, and skill don't always make you healthy, rich, or popular. We each have our own share of misfortune.

Mighty armies alone cannot win wars for a king; great strength by itself cannot keep a soldier safe.

But those who are evil will go blind and lose their way. Their only escape is death!

You have nowhere to run, nowhere to hide. *

When King Zedekiah and his troops saw that Jerusalem had been captured, they tried to escape from the city that same night. They went to the king's garden, where they slipped through the gate between the two city walls and headed toward the Jordan River valley.

God destroys mighty soldiers and strong fortresses.
