But Felix was frightened when Paul started talking to them about doing right, about self-control, and about the coming judgment. So he said to Paul, “That's enough for now. You may go. But when I have time I will send for you.”

gentle, and self-controlled. There is no law against behaving in any of these ways.

God told us to announce clearly to the people that Jesus is the one he has chosen to judge the living and the dead.

Children, don't be fooled. Anyone who does right is good, just like Christ himself.

You surely believe there is only one God. That's fine. Even demons believe this, and it makes them shake with fear.

We die only once, and then we are judged.

The promise to enter the place of rest is still good, and we must take care that none of you miss out.

You must encourage one another each day. And you must keep on while there is still a time that can be called “today.” If you don't, then sin may fool some of you and make you stubborn.

But the Scriptures say that sin controls everyone, so that God's promises will be for anyone who has faith in Jesus Christ.

After all, Christ will judge each of us for the good or the bad that we do while living in these bodies.

You can tell God's children from the devil's children, because those who belong to the devil refuse to do right or to love each other.

When Christ Jesus comes as king, he will be the judge of everyone, whether they are living or dead. So with God and Christ as witnesses, I command you

In the Scriptures God says, “When the time came, I listened to you, and when you needed help, I came to save you.” That time has come. This is the day for you to be saved.

So don't judge anyone until the Lord returns. He will show what is hidden in the dark and what is in everyone's heart. Then God will be the one who praises each of us.

I am just as sure as these people are that God will raise from death everyone, good or evil.

As soon as the people heard Paul say a man had been raised from death, some of them started laughing. Others said, “We will hear you talk about this some other time.”

So as usual, Paul went there to worship, and on three Sabbaths he spoke to the people. He used the Scriptures

When the people heard this, they were very upset. They asked Peter and the other apostles, “Friends, what should we do?”

And we shouldn't need to keep teaching about baptisms or about the laying on of hands or about people being raised from death and the future judgment.

that the Lord All-Powerful had said to them and to the people: You say this isn't the right time to build a temple for me. But is it right for you to live in expensive houses, while my temple is a pile of ruins? Just look at what's happening.

When I heard this message, I felt weak from fear, and my lips quivered. My bones seemed to melt, and I stumbled around. But I will patiently wait. Someday those vicious enemies will be struck by disaster.

Horses can't gallop on rocks; oceans can't be plowed. But you have turned justice and fairness into bitter poison.

But let justice and fairness flow like a river that never runs dry.

Plow your fields, scatter seeds of justice, and harvest faithfulness. Worship me, the Lord, and I will send my saving power down like rain.

Israel, you break treaties and don't keep promises; you turn justice into poisonous weeds where healthy plants should grow.

On the day their king was crowned, his officials got him drunk, and he joined in their foolishness.

Many of those who lie dead in the ground will rise from death. Some of them will be given eternal life, and others will receive nothing but eternal shame and disgrace.

Your Majesty, please be willing to do what I say. Turn from your sins and start living right; have mercy on those who are mistreated. Then all will go well with you for a long time.

The Lord God said: You leaders of Israel have cheated and abused my people long enough! I want you to stop sinning and start doing what is right and fair. You must never again force my people off their own land. I, the Lord, have spoken.

My words are a powerful fire; they are a hammer that shatters rocks.

I, the Lord, love justice! But I hate robbery and injustice. My people, I solemnly promise to reward you with an eternal agreement.

Turn to the Lord! He can still be found. Call out to God! He is near.

I am the Lord, the King of Israel! Come argue your case with me. Present your evidence.

Shake and shudder, you women without a care! Strip off your clothes— put on sackcloth.

Then a kingdom of love will be set up, and someone from David's family will rule with fairness. He will do what is right and quickly bring justice.

Jerusalem, you are like an unfaithful wife. Once your judges were honest and your people lived right; now you are a city full of murderers.

The sight was so frightening that Moses said he shook with fear.

And so, each of us must give an account to God for what we do.

Dear friends, God is good. So I beg you to offer your bodies to him as a living sacrifice, pure and pleasing. That's the most sensible way to serve God.

when God appoints Jesus Christ to judge everyone's secret thoughts, just as my message says.

Agrippa asked Paul, “In such a short time do you think you can talk me into being a Christian?”

When the Jewish leaders in Thessalonica heard that Paul had been preaching God's message in Berea, they went there and caused trouble by turning the crowds against Paul.

Now get up and go into the city, where you will be told what to do.”

But the guests did not pay any attention. Some of them left for their farms, and some went to their places of business.

That same night, the king was killed.

I have made everything; that's how it all came to be. I, the Lord, have spoken. The people I treasure most are the humble— they depend only on me and tremble when I speak.

I, the Lord, invite you to come and talk it over. Your sins are scarlet red, but they will be whiter than snow or wool.

God will judge everything we do, even what is done in secret, whether good or bad.

Be cheerful and enjoy life while you are young! Do what you want and find pleasure in what you see. But don't forget that God will judge you for everything you do.

Don't be surprised if the poor of your country are abused, and injustice takes the place of justice. After all, the lower officials must do what the higher ones order them to do.

Justice makes rulers powerful. They should hate evil

I tremble all over when I think of you and the way you judge.

Our Lord, you are King! You rule from your throne above the winged creatures, as people tremble and the earth shakes.

Let him be honest and fair with all your people, especially the poor.

You love justice and hate evil. And so, your God chose you and made you happier than any of your friends.

The Lord always does right and wants justice done. Everyone who does right will see his face.

Three days later, on the twentieth day of the ninth month, everyone from Judah and Benjamin came to Jerusalem and sat in the temple courtyard. It was a serious meeting, and they sat there, trembling in the rain.

After this, Felix often sent for Paul and talked with him, because he hoped that Paul would offer him a bribe.

After they heard what was written on the scroll, they were worried and said to each other, “The king needs to hear this!” Turning to Baruch, they asked,

Instead, they must be friendly to strangers and enjoy doing good things. They must also be sensible, fair, pure, and self-controlled.
