“Don't kill him!” David whispered back. “The Lord will punish anyone who kills his chosen king.

David and the others went on down the road. Shimei went along the hillside by the road, cursing and throwing rocks and dirt at them.

David was near the town of Bahurim when a man came out and started cursing him. The man was Shimei the son of Gera, and he was one of Saul's distant relatives.

and he told his men, “Stop talking foolishly. We're not going to attack Saul. He's my king, and I pray that the Lord will keep me from doing anything to harm his chosen king.” Saul left the cave and started down the road.

Abishai said, “Your Majesty, this man is as useless as a dead dog! He shouldn't be allowed to curse you. Let me go over and chop off his head.”

You are the shield that protects your people, and I am your chosen one. Won't you smile on me?

The Lord's chosen leader was our hope for survival! We thought he would keep us safe somewhere among the nations, but even he was caught in one of their traps.
