Elisha said to her, “Next year at this time, you'll be holding your own baby son in your arms.” “You're a man of God,” the woman replied. “Please don't lie to me.”

One of the guests was the Lord, and he said, “I'll come back about this time next year, and when I do, Sarah will already have a son.” Sarah was behind Abraham, listening at the entrance to the tent.

But the angel told him: Don't be afraid, Zechariah! God has heard your prayers. Your wife Elizabeth will have a son, and you must name him John.

The woman said, “Sir, I begged you not to get my hopes up, and I didn't even ask you for a son.”

But your son Isaac will be born about this time next year, and the promise I am making to you and your family will be for him and his descendants forever.

though in my confusion I said, “I can't trust anyone!”

One day the people of Jericho said, “Elisha, you can see that our city is in a good spot. But the water from our spring is so bad that it even keeps our crops from growing.”

The woman shouted at Elijah, “What have I done to you? I thought you were God's prophet. Did you come here to cause the death of my son as a reminder that I've sinned against God?”

Obadiah replied: King Ahab would kill me if I told him that. And I haven't even done anything wrong.

“Ask her to come here again,” Elisha told his servant. He called for her, and she came and stood in the doorway of Elisha's room.

But a few months later, the woman got pregnant. She gave birth to a son, just as Elisha had promised.

“You are God's prophet!” the woman replied. “Now I know that you really do speak for the Lord.”
