Then they brought some food to David and told him he would feel better if he had something to eat. It was still daytime, and David said, “I swear to God that I won't take a bite of bread or anything else until sunset!”

I will die where you die and be buried beside you. May the Lord punish me if we are ever separated, even by death!”

But Jesus did not answer. So the high priest said, “With the living God looking on, you must tell the truth. Are you the Messiah, the Son of God?”

Descendants of Jacob, is it right for you to claim that the Lord did what he did because he was angry? Doesn't he always bless those who do right?

For a while, Daniel was terribly confused and worried by what he was thinking. But I said, “Don't be bothered either by the dream or by what it means.” Daniel replied: Your Majesty, I wish the dream had been against your enemies.

Let your faithful people correct and punish me. My prayers condemn the deeds of those who do wrong, so don't let me be friends with any of them.

But Eli told him, “Samuel, my boy, come here!” “Yes, sir!” Samuel answered.

I swear that by morning, there won't be a man or boy left from his family or his servants' families. I pray that God will punish me if I don't do it!”

King Zedekiah had me brought to his private entrance to the temple, and he said, “I'm going to ask you something, and I want to know the truth.”

“All right,” I answered, “I will pray to the Lord your God, and I will tell you everything he says.”

Balaam went back and saw him and his officials standing beside the offerings. Balak asked, “What did the Lord say?”

“Yes, Jonathan. I swear to God that you must die.”

I ask God to punish me if I don't help David get what the Lord promised him!

Then David said to the woman, “Now I'm going to ask you a question, and don't try to hide the truth!” The woman replied, “Please go ahead, Your Majesty.”

He said, “I pray that God will punish me terribly, if Elisha's head is still on his shoulders by this time tomorrow.”
