Saul agreed and promised, “I swear by the living Lord that I won't have David killed!”

Everyone breaks promises made in my name.”

They hate worthless people, but show respect for all who worship the Lord. And they keep their promises, no matter what the cost.

Saul replied, “I swear by the living Lord that nothing will happen to you because of this.”

I swear by the living Lord that whoever sinned must die, even if it turns out to be my own son Jonathan.” No one said a word.

Jonathan went to David and told him what Saul had said. Then he brought David to Saul, and David served in Saul's army just as he had done before.

But you must defend those who are helpless and have no hope.
