He answered, “Lord God All-Powerful, I've always done my best to obey you. But your people have broken their solemn promise to you. They have torn down your altars and killed all your prophets, except me. And now they are even trying to kill me!”

Then Elijah continued: I am the Lord's only prophet, but Baal has 450 prophets.

I demand your complete loyalty—you must not worship any other god!

Don't bow down and worship idols. I am the Lord your God, and I demand all your love. If you reject me, I will punish your families for three or four generations.

Elijah told everyone to gather around him while he repaired the Lord's altar.

She sent a message to Elijah: “You killed my prophets. Now I'm going to kill you! I pray that the gods will punish me even more severely if I don't do it by this time tomorrow.”

Ahab got everyone together, then they went to meet Elijah on Mount Carmel.

and when he saw him, Ahab shouted, “There you are, the biggest troublemaker in Israel!”

I swear to you in the name of the living Lord your God that the king has looked everywhere for you. He sent people to look in every country, and when they couldn't find you, he made the leader of each country swear that you were not in that country.

Still others were stoned to death or sawed in two or killed with swords. Some had nothing but sheep skins or goat skins to wear. They were poor, mistreated, and tortured.

The Lord said: Moses, you will soon die. But Israel is going into a land where other gods are worshiped, and Israel will reject me and start worshiping these gods. The people will break the agreement I made with them,

and said, “Come with me and see how faithful I am to the Lord.” They rode together in Jehu's chariot

The king told his son Jerahmeel to take Seraiah and Shelemiah and to go arrest Baruch and me. But the Lord kept them from finding us.

In spite of this, they rebelled and disobeyed your laws. They killed your prophets, who warned them to turn back to you, and they cursed your name.

they were unfaithful and broke their promises.

When I told you my troubles, you answered my prayers. Now teach me your laws.

Do something, Lord! They have broken your Law.

I said to myself, “I'm completely worn out; my time has been wasted. But I did it for the Lord God, and he will reward me.”
