I have told the people that you, Lord, will punish them, but they just laugh and refuse to listen.

When the Pharisees heard Jesus say this, they asked, “Are we blind?”

You teachers of the Law of Moses are really in for trouble! You carry the keys to the door of knowledge about God. But you never go in, and you keep others from going in.

Jesus replied: You teachers are also in for trouble! You load people down with heavy burdens, but you won't lift a finger to help them carry the loads.

One of them was an expert in the Jewish Law. So he tried to test Jesus by asking,

You have let me announce only injustice and death. Your message has brought me nothing but insults and trouble.

“We could ask Micaiah son of Imlah,” Ahab said. “But I hate Micaiah. He always has bad news for me.” “Don't say that!” Jehoshaphat replied.

But the Pharisees and the experts in the Law of Moses refused to obey God and be baptized by John.
