A ruler who mistreats the poor is like a roaring lion or a bear hunting for food.

Your leaders have rejected me to become friends of crooks; your rulers are looking for gifts and bribes. Widows and orphans never get a fair trial.

They roar and growl like fierce young lions as they grab their victims and drag them off where no one can rescue them.

But all you think about is how to cheat or abuse or murder some innocent victim.

The LORD told me to say: You prophets and priests think so little of me, the LORD, that you even sin in my own temple!

I will let your enemies take all of you prisoner, including the leaders of Judah and Jerusalem, the royal officials, the priests, and everyone else who walked between the two parts of the calf. These enemies will kill you and leave your bodies lying on the ground as food for birds and wild animals.

The people have rebelled and rejected the LORD too many times. So enemies will attack like lions from the forest or wolves from the desert. Those enemies will watch the towns of Judah, and like leopards they will tear to pieces whoever goes outside.

Your own leaders use their power to murder.

and spread violence throughout the land. Everything you do is wicked; you are even unfaithful in marriage. And you claim the land is yours!

Their cavalry troops are faster than leopards, more ferocious than wolves hunting at sunset, and swifter than hungry eagles suddenly swooping down.
