Zephaniah 1:7

Be silent! I am the LORD God, and the time is near. I am preparing to sacrifice my people and to invite my guests.

Why doesn't God set a time for court? Why don't his people know where he can be found?

Our God says, "Calm down, and learn that I am God! All nations on earth will honor me."

The LORD has commanded his very best warriors and his proud heroes to show how angry he is.

Cry and weep! The day is coming when the mighty LORD will bring destruction. *

The LORD All-Powerful has chosen a day when those who are proud and conceited will be put down.

I will still make you suffer, and your people will cry when I make an altar of you.

After the sword of the LORD has done what it wants to the skies above, it will come down on Edom, the nation that the LORD has doomed for destruction.

The sword of the LORD is covered with blood from lambs and goats, together with fat from kidneys of rams. This is because the LORD will slaughter many people and make a sacrifice of them in the city of Bozrah and everywhere else in Edom.

Then I cried out, "I'm doomed! Everything I say is sinful, and so are the words of everyone around me. Yet I have seen the King, the LORD All-Powerful."

But the LORD All-Powerful will win this battle and take revenge on his enemies. His sword will eat them and drink their blood until it is full. They will be killed in the north near the Euphrates River, as a sacrifice to the LORD.

Disaster is near! Injustice and arrogance are everywhere,

You people of Israel are doomed! Soon there will be panic on the mountaintops instead of celebration.

We are in for trouble! Soon the LORD All-Powerful will bring disaster.

The LORD God leads this army of countless troops, and they obey his commands. The day of his judgment is so terrible that no one can stand it.

The sun will turn dark, and the moon will be as red as blood before that great and terrible day when I appear.

As you carry out a corpse to prepare it for burial, your relative in the house will ask, "Are there others?" You will answer, "No!" Then your relative will reply, "Be quiet! Don't dare mention the name of the LORD."

Instead of singing in the temple, they will cry and weep. Dead bodies will be everywhere. So keep silent! I, the LORD, have spoken!"

Let all the world be silent-- the LORD is present in his holy temple.

The great day of the LORD is coming soon, very soon. On that terrible day, fearsome shouts of warriors will be heard everywhere.

The LORD will have his day. And when it comes, everything that was ever taken from Jerusalem will be returned and divided among its people.

Everyone, be silent! The LORD is present and moving about in his holy place.

The day of judgment is certain to come. And it will be like a red-hot furnace with flames that burn up proud and sinful people, as though they were straw. Not a branch or a root will be left. I, the LORD All-Powerful, have spoken!

He sent other servants to say to the guests, "The banquet is ready! My cattle and prize calves have all been prepared. Everything is ready. Come to the banquet!"

We know that everything in the Law was written for those who are under its power. The Law says these things to stop anyone from making excuses and to let God show that the whole world is guilty.

But, my friend, I ask, "Who do you think you are to question God? Does the clay have the right to ask the potter why he shaped it the way he did?

Always be gentle with others. The Lord will soon be here.

I pray that you will be grateful to God for letting you have part in what he has promised his people in the kingdom of light.

"Yes, it is!" Samuel answered. "I've come to offer a sacrifice to the LORD. Get yourselves ready to take part in the sacrifice and come with me." Samuel also invited Jesse and his sons to come to the sacrifice, and he got them ready to take part.

Saul didn't say anything that day, because he was thinking, "Something must have happened to make David unfit to be at the Festival. Yes, something must have happened."
