Your faith in the Lord and your service are like a sacrifice offered to him. And my own blood may have to be poured out with the sacrifice. If this happens, I will be glad and rejoice with you.

Finally, along with each of these two sacrifices, a quart of wine must be poured on the altar as a drink offering.

This means that death is working in us, but life is working in you.

and we are always happy, even in times of suffering. Although we are poor, we have made many people rich. And though we own nothing, everything is ours.

I trust you completely. I am always proud of you, and I am greatly encouraged. In all my trouble I am still very happy.

I honestly expect and hope that I will never do anything to be ashamed of. Whether I live or die, I always want to be as brave as I am now and bring honor to Christ.

In the same way, you should be glad and rejoice with me.

He almost died working for Christ, and he risked his own life to do for me what you could not.

I have been paid back everything, and with interest. I am completely satisfied with the gifts that you had Epaphroditus bring me. They are like a sweet-smelling offering or like the right kind of sacrifice that pleases God.

I am glad that I can suffer for you. I am pleased also that in my own body I can continue the suffering of Christ for his body, the church.

We cared so much for you, and you became so dear to us, that we were willing to give our lives for you when we gave you God's message.

Now the time has come for me to die. My life is like a drink offering being poured out on the altar.

And now you are living stones that are being used to build a spiritual house. You are also a group of holy priests, and with the help of Jesus Christ you will offer sacrifices that please God.

We know what love is because Jesus gave his life for us. That's why we must give our lives for each other.
