But, our God, you are merciful and quick to forgive; you are loving, kind, and very patient. So you never turned away from them--

The LORD our God was with our ancestors to help them, and I pray that he will be with us and never abandon us.

King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylonia had forced Zedekiah to promise in God's name that he would be loyal. Zedekiah was stubborn and refused to turn back to the LORD God of Israel, so he rebelled against Nebuchadnezzar.

We are slaves, but you have never turned your back on us. You love us, and because of you, the kings of Persia have helped us. It's as though you have given us new life! You let us rebuild your temple and live safely in Judah and Jerusalem.

But you are merciful and kind, and so you never forgot them or let them be destroyed.

But they soon forgot what you had done and rejected your advice.

When they were in Egypt, they paid no attention to your marvelous deeds or your wonderful love. And they turned against you at the Red Sea.

But you forgive us, and so we will worship you.

They broke their agreement with God, and they turned their backs on his teaching.

They forgot all he had done, even the mighty miracles

Yet God was kind. He kept forgiving their sins and didn't destroy them. He often became angry, but never lost his temper.

But you, the Lord God, are kind and merciful. You don't easily get angry, and your love can always be trusted.

You willingly forgive, and your love is always there for those who pray to you.

Moses, I have seen how stubborn these people are,

You completely ignored me and refused to listen;

But you, my people, have turned from me to burn incense to worthless idols. You have left the ancient road to follow an unknown path where you stumble over idols.

"Listen, everyone! Some time ago, the LORD All-Powerful, the God of Israel, warned you that he would bring disaster on Jerusalem and all nearby villages. But you were stubborn and refused to listen. Now the LORD is going to bring the disaster he promised."

But you have ignored me and become even more stubborn and sinful than your ancestors ever were!

But the people of Jerusalem rebelled and refuse to obey me. They ignored my laws and have become even more sinful than the nations around them.

LORD God, you are merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against you

Don't rip your clothes to show your sorrow. Instead, turn back to me with broken hearts. I am merciful, kind, and caring. I don't easily lose my temper, and I don't like to punish.

No matter what you have done, I am still the LORD your God, and I will never completely reject you or become absolutely disgusted with you there in the land of your enemies.

The LORD is powerful, yet patient; he makes sure that the guilty are always punished. He can be seen in storms and in whirlwinds; clouds are the dust from his feet.

The LORD said to Moses, "I have done great things for these people, and they still reject me by refusing to believe in my power.

But Moses replied, "You're disobeying the LORD! Your plan won't work,

You keep promising us rich farmlands with fertile fields and vineyards--but where are they? Stop trying to trick these people. No, we won't come to see you."

But our ancestors refused to obey Moses. They rejected him and wanted to go back to Egypt.

The Lord told Moses that he has pity and mercy on anyone he wants to.

Make sure that you obey the one who speaks to you. The people did not escape, when they refused to obey the one who spoke to them at Mount Sinai. Do you think you can possibly escape, if you refuse to obey the one who speaks to you from heaven?

But the LORD has chosen you to be his own people. He will always take care of you so that everyone will know how great he is.
