Many years ago, a man named Job lived in the land of Uz. He was a truly good person, who respected God and refused to do evil.

Think of the bright future waiting for all the families of honest and innocent and peace-loving people.

Then Jesus said to his disciples: If any of you want to be my followers, you must forget about yourself. You must take up your cross and follow me.

The young man said, "I have obeyed all of these. What else must I do?"

When the young man heard this, he was sad, because he was very rich.

Jesus answered: Yes, all of you have become my followers. And so in the future world, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, I promise that you will sit on twelve thrones to judge the twelve tribes of Israel.

Jesus said to them, "Come with me! I will teach you how to bring in people instead of fish."

But you must always act like your Father in heaven.

Jesus answered, "Come with me, and let the dead bury their dead."

As Jesus was leaving, he saw a tax collector named Matthew sitting at the place for paying taxes. Jesus said to him, "Come with me." Matthew got up and went with him.

Jesus looked closely at the man. He liked him and said, "There's one thing you still need to do. Go sell everything you own. Give the money to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven. Then come with me."

As he walked along, he saw Levi, the son of Alphaeus. Levi was sitting at the place for paying taxes, and Jesus said to him, "Come with me!" So he got up and went with Jesus.

Jesus then told the crowd and the disciples to come closer, and he said: If any of you want to be my followers, you must forget about yourself. You must take up your cross and follow me.

Sell what you have and give the money to the poor. Make yourselves moneybags that never wear out. Make sure your treasure is safe in heaven, where thieves cannot steal it and moths cannot destroy it.

So then, you cannot be my disciple unless you give away everything you own.

My disciples, I tell you to use wicked wealth to make friends for yourselves. Then when it is gone, you will be welcomed into an eternal home.

When Jesus heard this, he said, "There is one thing you still need to do. Go and sell everything you own! Give the money to the poor, and you will have riches in heaven. Then come and be my follower."

Later, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the place for paying taxes. Jesus said to him, "Come with me."

Are students better than their teacher? But when they are fully trained, they will be like their teacher.

Then Jesus said to all the people: If any of you want to be my followers, you must forget about yourself. You must take up your cross each day and follow me.

My sheep know my voice, and I know them. They follow me,

If you serve me, you must go with me. My servants will be with me wherever I am. If you serve me, my Father will honor you.

They would sell their property and possessions and give the money to whoever needed it.

You were kind to people in jail. And you gladly let your possessions be taken away, because you knew you had something better, something that would last forever.
