Malachi 1:6

I, the LORD All-Powerful, have something to say to you priests. Children respect their fathers, and servants respect their masters. I am your father and your master, so why don't you respect me? You priests have insulted me, and now you ask, "How did we insult you?"

Servants look to their master, but we will look to you, until you have mercy on us.

Respect your father and your mother, and you will live a long time in the land I am giving you.

Some people curse their father and even their mother;

Don't make fun of your father or disobey your mother-- crows will peck out your eyes, and buzzards will eat the rest of you.

You have not honored me by sacrificing sheep or other animals. And I have not burdened you with demands for sacrifices or sweet-smelling incense.

Children don't have the right to demand of their parents, "What have you done to make us what we are?"

No one worships in your name or remains faithful. You have turned your back on us and let our sins melt us away.

You, LORD, are our Father. We are nothing but clay, but you are the potter who molded us.

The LORD told me to say: You prophets and priests think so little of me, the LORD, that you even sin in my own temple!

You call me your father or your long-lost friend;

They will weep and pray as I bring them home. I will lead them to streams of water. They will walk on a level road and not stumble. I am a father to Israel, my favorite children.

The Rechabites have obeyed the command of their ancestor Jonadab, but you have not obeyed me,

The priests of Israel ignore my Law! Not only do they refuse to respect any of my sacred things, but they don't even teach the difference between what is sacred and what is ordinary, or between what is clean and what is unclean. They treat my Sabbath like any other day, and so my own people no longer honor me.

You say to yourself, "I'm rich! I earned it all on my own, without committing a sin."

You priests have rejected me, and my people are destroyed by refusing to obey. Now I'll reject you and forget your children, because you have forgotten my Law.

Listen, you priests! Pay attention, Israel! Listen, you members of the royal family. Justice was your duty. But at Mizpah and Mount Tabor you trapped the people.

Respect your father and your mother, honor the Sabbath, and don't make idols or images. I am the LORD your God.

Jerusalem's prophets are proud and not to be trusted. The priests have disgraced the place of worship and abused God's Law.

I, the LORD All-Powerful, have something else to say to you priests.

Don't you know that we all have God as our Father? Didn't the one God create each of us? Then why do you cheat each other by breaking the agreement God made with your ancestors?

But you have turned your backs on me. Your teachings have led others to do sinful things, and you have broken the agreement I made with your ancestor Levi.

The LORD All-Powerful said: I'm now on my way to judge you. And I will quickly condemn all who practice witchcraft or cheat in marriage or tell lies in court or rob workers of their pay or mistreat widows and orphans or steal the property of foreigners or refuse to respect me.

Didn't God command you to respect your father and mother? Didn't he tell you to put to death all who curse their parents?

Is this any way to show respect to your parents? You ignore God's commands in order to follow your own teaching.

Respect your father and mother. And love others as much as you love yourself."

You should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, help us to honor your name.

Not everyone who calls me their Lord will get into the kingdom of heaven. Only the ones who obey my Father in heaven will get in.

You know the commandments. 'Do not murder. Be faithful in marriage. Do not steal. Do not tell lies about others. Do not cheat. Respect your father and mother.' "

Didn't Moses command you to respect your father and mother? Didn't he tell you to put to death all who curse their parents?

But the man wanted to show that he knew what he was talking about. So he asked Jesus, "Who are my neighbors?"

You know the commandments: 'Be faithful in marriage. Do not murder. Do not steal. Do not tell lies about others. Respect your father and mother.' "

Have pity on others, just as your Father has pity on you.

Why do you keep on saying that I am your Lord, when you refuse to do what I say?

"Obey your father and your mother,

And you know that the LORD has taken care of us the whole time we've been in the desert, just as you might carry one of your children."

Israel, the LORD is your Father, the one who created you, but you repaid him by being foolish.

Respect your father and mother, and you will live a long and successful life in the land I am giving you.

You say that God is your Father, but God doesn't have favorites! He judges all people by what they do. So you must honor God while you live as strangers here on earth.
