Later, they may feel sorry for what they did and ask your forgiveness. Answer them when they pray toward this temple I have built for you in your chosen city, here in this land you gave their ancestors. From your home in heaven, listen to their sincere prayers and do what they ask.

Now you must confess your sins to the LORD God of your ancestors and obey him. Divorce your foreign wives and don't have anything to do with the rest of the foreigners who live around here.

LORD God of Israel, you have been more than fair by letting a few of us survive. But once again, our sins have made us ashamed to face you.

and prayed: I am much too ashamed to face you, LORD God. Our sins and our guilt have swept over us like a flood that reaches up to the heavens.

So I confessed my sins and told them all to you. I said, "I'll tell the LORD each one of my sins." Then you forgave me and took away my guilt.

If you don't confess your sins, you will be a failure. But God will be merciful if you confess your sins and give them up.

We and our ancestors are guilty of rebelling against you.

Won't you look and see how upset I am, our LORD? My stomach is in knots, and my heart is broken because I betrayed you. In the streets and at home, my people are slaughtered.

You will be convinced that I, the LORD God, was right in doing what I did.

You will remember your evil ways and hate yourselves for what you've done.

Then I'll return to my temple until they confess their guilt and worship me, until they are desperate and beg for my help.

If you keep rebelling against me, I'll punish you seven times worse, just as your sins deserve!

I'll remain your enemy and punish you even worse.

As soon as you discover that you have committed any of these sins, you must confess what you have done.

You must confess your guilt and pay the victim in full for whatever damage has been done, plus a fine of twenty percent.

Phinehas and these leaders went to Gilead and met with the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and East Manasseh. They said:
